Wilderness Survival Campout, including Airsoft Capture the Flag, is this Weekend
The always popular Wilderness Survival Campout is a terrific example of how adventuring within a culture of commitment to our Catholic Faith can teach boys about authentic manhood.  This is always a fun campout, and the Trailmen always return with stories about overcoming challenging conditions.

This year's campout is this Saturday, October 20, through Sunday, October 21.  That said, according to the latest weather reports, we are to be blessed with relatively dry weather.  It will be chilly, though, so Trailmen should be sure to bring a warm sleeping bag.

The Wilderness Shelter Patrol Competition will turn on the quality and realistic "survivability" of the wilderness shelter that the Trailmen of each patrol build and in which they sleep Saturday night, as well as how well they incorporate SAFE use of fire in a manner that helps heat their shelter and cook their dinners.     Extra credit will be awarded for the correct use of multiple types of properly-tied lashings in the design of the shelter.

The Airsoft Capture the Flag Competition will  require the use of airsoft guns/ammo/face protection.  Those who have extra to lend to their fellow Trailmen, please bring those extras.  Those who want to acquire the necessary gear nbefore the campout still have time.  Amazon Prime delivers in two days.  Here is a link to a relatively affordable Airsoft gun.  All participants MUST have a parental signed permission/waiver (see link below) and must wearface protection.

Please give us a "head count" on both Trailmen and registered adults who plan to be there.  We need to know how many seats are needed for transportation, how many dads are able to assist with transportation, and how many Trailmen will be eating breakfast on Sunday, and how many dads will be eating lunch and dinner together on Saturday night.

Drop-off on Saturday morning will be immediately following the 8:30 AM Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Front Royal, in the Padre Pio Parking Lot.  Please try to attend the Mass before departing for the campout.  Departure will be at 9:45 AM.  Pick-up at the same location will be at 1 PM on Sunday.

Troop Meeting Tonight
We want to use this special edition of the Troop 1212 newsletter, The Catholic Trailman Wayfarer, as a reminder that drop-off at Human Life International is as early as 6:30 PM and that the troop meeting will start at 7 PM sharp.  Woodlanders (ages 5-10) finish up at 8 pm.  Navigators (ages 11-13) and Adventurers (ages 14-17) continue with "Band of Brothers" from 8 pm until 9 pm.

Uniform Inspection

As part of our ongoing competition among patrols, we will be conducting uniform inspections tonight.

What is a Wayfarer?

A Wayfarer is a person who travels by foot.  In a well-known traditional hymn, the "wayfaring stranger" is a pilgrim who stands apart as he moves through this world in hopeful anticipation of the Kingdom of God. Inasmuch as Trailmen have accepted the Biblical challenge to "Walk Worthy", we have adopted this name for our troop newsletter.
