Second Annual Trail Junction Invitational on June 1-2 will focus on Orieneering (Map & Compass)
We hope your troop will join us for a weekend campout -- with a single day Orienteering instruction culminating in a "Scavenger Hunt", a competition among patrols, as the centerpiece of the event.  The idea is to put Trailmen in a position to apply what they have learned and to complete any loose string requirements in Trail Skills instruction program conducted at the troop level.   Trailmen will compete while enjoying an intra-troop campout in the tradition of a "camporee".  (In Trail Life, we call it a "Trail Junction".)  Details to follow for all those indicating an interest in participating.

As with last year's initial Trail Junction event, which focused on First Aid, this allows us to do some things for which there is never enough time at Summer Adventure Camp, while diminishing some of the pressure on the Summer Adventure Camp schedule.  Last year's experiment in this regard seemed to go very well.  Our current thinking is that we will alternate each year with First Aid and Orienteering as the themes.
Summer Adventure Camp scheduled for July 31 - August 4 for those not going on the Backcountry Expedition; Camp to continue through August 7 for Backcountry X-ers.
Your troop is invited to join us once again for our Summer Adventure Camp 2019, which will be held for the second year at our "new" Base Camp home, a fantastic facility just outside Winchester, Virginia, from July 31 through August 4 or 7.  We will continue to offer horseback riding and swimming off-site, but all our shooting sports, fishing, and camping will be on-site at Base Camp.  Daily Mass and nightly praying of the rosary will again be the norm.

Details and registration materials to follow for all who indicate an interest in participating.

The new mid-week start and finish is intended to facilitate greater participation from troops struggling to provide two-deep leadership for a full work week.  The Base Camp experience will now require two-deep adult leadership for as long as the younger less experienced boys are in camp, which will be Wednesday through Sunday.  After August 4, visiting troops will only need to provide transportation for the retrieval of their troop's Backcountry Expeditioners (if any) on Wednesday, August 7.

We continue to offer a vast array of activities as part of the popular Spoils of War competition throughout the Base Camp experience, and the Backcountry Expedition will continue to offer that extra sense of achievment to those looking for a bigger challenge.  We hope you are as excited about this new format as we are.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Troop 1212 inaugurates its "Catholic Trailman Wayfarer" newsletter
Hi folks.  You are receiving this special edition of the Troop 1212 newsletter, The Catholic Trailman Wayfarer, as a means of providing nearby Catholic Troops of Trail Life  with important news regarding upcoming opportunities to join us at our planned first annual Trail Junction Invitational this May, as well as our annual tradition of Summer Adventure Camp in July.

What is a Wayfarer?

A Wayfarer is a person who travels by foot.  In a well-known traditional hymn, the "wayfaring stranger" is a pilgrim who stands apart as he moves through this world in hopeful anticipation of the Kingdom of God. Inasmuch as Trailmen have accepted the Biblical challenge to "Walk Worthy", we have adopted this name for our troop newsletter.
